-Our mission
Our Work
Agroforestry
Production of fruit and wood trees in community nurseries using agro ecology methods to create edible forests in mountain areas. A network of volunteers routinely reforest barren hills with fast growing trees and are trained as forest fighters to prevent and extinguish mountain fires.
Soil Conservation
Recovery of soils along the river basins and watershed areas through soil conservation practices that promote the use of new methods such as swales that capture water, live and dead barriers and composts.
Horticulture
Production of organic vegetables using greenhouse structures and small open fields using drip irrigation methods for water conservation.
Organic Fertilizers and Natural Pesticides
The production of organic matter through worm composting, animal manure, crop waste, natural liquid fertilizers and pesticides to fertilize degraded soils.
Commercial Marketing Center
The Federation of Farmers Associations works with local organic farmers to purchase and market quality organic produce that is available six days a week at their newly established distribution center. It is also distributed to community fruit and vegetable stands, local schools, a hospital, and a senior citizen center.
Animal Husbandry
Promote the breeding of sheep, pigs, bees, chickens and fish to improve family diets and support biodiversity.
Seed Saving
The Federation of Farmers has two greenhouses of vegetable seed banks for promoting sustainability in seed production; eliminating the dependency on the purchase of expensive hybrid and genetically modified seeds.
